Keeping | They say Oranda is a result of cross of Lion head with Veil Tail.
Like the Lion head gold fish Oranda has a bumpy growth on the head. On good specimens this growth covers
the full head like a cap. The growth however should not cover the face. The growth does not begin to show
until the fish are 2 or 3 years old. The Oranda has rounded egg shaped body with long flowing dual caudal and
dual anal fins. The Dorsal fin is same as on a Veil Tail. The growth mostly is in red orange, but it can be
other colours also like calico, brown, black etc.. In calico varieties, more the blue and black the more valuable
the fish is. Some expensive varieties have silver white body with striking red cap. The Ornada can live from
five to ten years long. These need warmer temperature compared to other gold fishes. They will grow from
3 to 4 inches long tail not included. These are not very rugged and need to be kept by experienced aquarist.
Definitly not a beginner's fish. Oranda is not suitable for outdoor ponds.
