TIPS FOR CARE AND MAINTENANCE
I would like to tell you mainly the things which you should not do rather
than what you should do. What you should do, you can learn from the other sections of this
website.
- Do not bang the glass or covers of the tank. Fish can get scared and will dash around
the tank and can easily get hurt. Also there is a very good chance of the glass breaking.
- Do not switch on and off the light suddenly. Sudden lighting or darkness would make
the fish dash around and get hurt. Always switch on the room light before switching on or
off the aquarium light.
- Do not suddenly enter the room or make sudden movements. The fish will be frightened
and will dash around.
- Do not use paints, varnishes, other chemicals in the aquarium vicinity. A few drops
in the water can kill the fish.
- Do not move tanks with water. If you want to move tanks, siphon out all the water
and then move them carefully.
- Do not use copper or brass objects and decorations in the tank, they are poisonous
metals for the fish.
- Do not use soap or other detergent in the tank. If at all you use detergent to
clean then rinse the tank thoroughly with hot water before setting up the tank again.
- Do not use hose pipe, buckets, mugs etc.. used for other activities like washing
cloths, car etc.. as they can carry trace chemicals.
- Do not keep tank on an uneven surface.
- Do not keep very big tanks in the middle of the room as it can put a lot of
pressure on the flooring and your floor may bend and collapse if the not thick enough.
- Do not keep tank near windows with bright sunlight from the side.
- Do not keep tanks in the rooms where children always dash around and play. children can
get hurt banging on the glass.
- Do not allow children to meddle with the tank unless they know about the aquarium keeping.
- Never pull out the heater from your tank without switching it off. It can cause your thermostat
to get spoiled or even cause your glass bulb covering the element to explode or shatter. Always
switch off the heater and allow for 10 minutes to cool before taking it out.
