The Girls’ Brigade 16th Company first founded in 1982 by Mrs Sally Chew for residents staying in Toa Payoh area. Through the years, the
company has met many challenges and we had over the years, approached most of the schools in Toa
Payoh, in recruiting girls for the brigade.
With effect from July 2002, under the GBHQ directive, the company was officially expanded into Primary
School Company, operating at First Toa Payoh Primary School and Secondary School Company, operating at First Toa
Payoh Secondary School. They are known as 16th (P) and 16th (S) respectively. This was implemented to better
cater to individual needs of the girls, as they have grown to different stages of their lives.
Primarily, both companies are functioning under pastoral and are affiliate to Toa Payoh Methodist Church.
The activities for 16th S Company were based in First Toa Payoh Secondary School, in close proximity to
the church.
Since 2002, the company had opened its door to recruit secondary level girls from Chen Su Lan
Methodist Childrens’ Home. Currently, there are a number of girls from different schools joining
the Brigade as well. We hope to be able to touch the lives of youths from the home and giving them a chance
to develop in them leadership qualities as with the others.
The officers from both primary and secondary sections have always been united in their vision.
They want to minister, nurture and touch the lives of the girls in various Toa Payoh schools. They wish
to establish and equip the girls with Christian values and that the girls will grow into beautiful women of
God. Our Aim in the Girls’ Brigade is to help girls to become followers of the Lord Jesus Christ and
through self-control, reverences and a sense of responsibilities to find true enrichment of life.
