center... Yokosuka is just a few hours train from central Tokyo ( south )...

Yokosuka City is located in
the southeast of Kanagawa Prefecture and on the middle of the Miura
Peninsula faces Tokyo Bay on the east and Sagami Bay on the west. The city
is within 50 kilometers from Tokyo and 20 kilometers from Yokohama.
Covering about 70 percent of
the Miura Peninsula, is surrounded by the sea on the east and west with
Japan Current washing its coastlines. It is a nature-favored area with
moderate weather throughout four seasons.
Yokosuka City was
municipalized on February 15, 1907, the second city so designated in
Kanagawa Prefecture following Yokohama City. The then, population totaled
62,876. With the World
War II coming to its end, the population rapidly declined, totaling 202,038
according to a population survey conducted on November 1, 1945. This
represented a decrease of about 150,000 in population.
