  • Climate

    Thailand is a warm and rather humid tropical country. Thailand has three seasons: Cool (November to February); Hot ( (March to June); Rainy (July to October).

    Temperature are highest in March and April and lowest in December and January. The average temperature is 23.7'C to 32.5'C.


    Money

    The Thai Currency is the baht. In March 2000, the rate is $1 US is 37 baht.


    Bargaining

    The Thais are always amenable to bargaining. Shops, markets, taxis, etc. will think you rather odd if you accept the first price.


    Do's and Don't's

  • The Thais are a courteous and discrete people. Equanimity is valued at all times; losing your cool shold be avoided at all times.
  • Anything to do with the Buddhist religion or the Royal Family should be treated with the utmost respect. Hence, don't climb up on one to take a photograph or, generally speaking, do anything that might show a lack of respect.
  • Dress properly when visiting temples, e.g. no shorts or revealing blouses.
  • A monk should not be touched, nor should women hand anything to him directly. Use an intermediary.
  • The head is the highest part of the body, both literally and ritually. Do not touch the people on the head.
  • The feet are the lowest part of the body. They should not be pointed towards a person or object (especially a Buddha image) that you respect, nor should they be used to indicated anything.
