TheME Class 90 Fund
We ended our 4threunion
gathering with a very meaningful program. Our organising
committee
chairman, Lim
GeeYean, initiated the "ME 90 Fund" for the
purpose of assisting ME studentsthat
may face
financialproblems due to the last recession. This was our very
first step in contributing
back to the society
as alumni from the ME class of 1990, NUS. Lets hope the
spirit will continuefor
many more years to
come.
Here is the
reportfrom Gee Yean, which was sent to the class via emails, and
attracted responsesfrom
Yeoh Thye Lye,
JamesSoo and Willie Low Peng Teong. I had appended all the
original emails below.
Lim Gee Yean : (the email dated2
February, 2000)
Hi everyone :-) , hope you are going to enjoy the long break ahead.
To those who were at the last class gathering, we collected an
amountof
$2100 for the purpose of assisting ME students that may face
financial
problems due to the last recession.
We stipulated that the student need to be a ME student and in
need of
financial support and not dependent on their results.
I apologise for only settling this project only last Dec after
almost1
year delay due to my project schedule. This amount was sent in
through
Alumni and the government is also supporting the cash amount $3
for every
dollar contributed. However the amount from the government will
be
channelled instead to the University and the faculty and not to
our fund.
Last week I receive a reply from Bursar informing me that the
amount has
being disbursed to a student.
Below is the email from NUS Bursar
"The donation has just been awarded as a study grant to a
second year
student from Mech Engineering. The student had approached us for
assistance
as his father was retrenched and he had no other means of paying
for his fees.
His sister had just started work three months ago and could not
assist him with
the fees."
I hope this will encourage us as we see that our gathering as
a class has
brought benefits to those who are in need as we are being blessed
in our
lives. I hope that this good works will continue in our future
gathering.
To the organiser, so when hah in our next gathering?
HAVE A BLESSED AND HAPPY CHINESE NEW YEAR!!!!!! :-)
