One Working Day

Written by Daphne (4A5 2002)

One working day, I had to rush as I had switched off my alarm clock and had overslept. When I reached my working place, Taka Jewellery Shop, I was glad to find that my boss was not around yet. My colleague told me that our boss had taken medical leave. I heaved a sigh of relief.

My colleague and I started to pack the jewellery neatly in the showcase. We had to open the shop for business so as to earn a living.

While we were busy packing, two burly men ran into our shop and pointed a gun at us. They ordered us to take out the most expensive jewellery in the shop and to put it into a bag. Before we could do anything, a security guard ran into our shop and wanted to stop them, but one of the burly men took a chair and hit him on his temple. The security guard passed out.

I refused to carry out the robbers' order so one of the burly men used a small axe which he was holding in his hand to break the showcase. I got cuts on my face when a few pieces of glass hit me. I was too afraid to do anything. Pieces of glasses were strewn all over the floor.

Not long after, I heard siren. The police arrived and ordered the two burly men to put down their gun and surrender. They knew that they were outnumbered so they gave up.

After the police had left, my colleague told me that he had managed to set off a silent alarm when the burly men were not looking.

A few days later, our boss returned to work. He heard about the robbery and praised us as we had managed to prevent the two burly men from robbing our shop.
