Saved From A Watery Death

Written by Boaz (3A5 2003)

One very hot and dry afternoon, my family including my cat, Friskie, was preparing for a picnic at the beach. We intended to stay there until 5.30 p.m.

Soon, we were all happily eating. My sister was trying to train Friskie to sit still using her "How To Train Your Cat" magazine. She said that it was very difficult to train Friskie because he kept on doing the opposite of what she was supposed to do.

Finally, my sister gave up on Friskie and walked away. Suddenly, we heard somebody cry, "HELP!"

My sister looked up and saw a boy thrashing about wildly in the sea. She ran to tell my father. My father saw a sign that said, "No lifeguard on duty. Swim at your own risk."

My father knew he had to save the boy since he was a very good swimmer. All of us watched my father as he dashed towards the water's edge as if we were watching a movie. My sister had to keep an eye on Friskie.

My father had to fight the strong currents to reach the boy. Soon, my father was very near the boy. The current was carrying him away so my father only managed to grab the boy's chin. He had to tell the boy to stop struggling or it would be difficult to tow him back. The boy stopped struggling.

Soon, I could see my father coming back to shore with the boy. The boy thanked my father very much and two adults walked towards us. They were his parents. They thanked my father non-stop.

I felt like my father was a real hero!
