Youth Expedition Project

The Youth Expedition Project (YEP) inspires young Singaporeans to be active and caring world citizens through its International Service Learning (ISL) expeditions. Through participation in community service and reflection, YEP volunteers learn personal, team and leadership skills, have a better appreciation of the overseas partner community's culture and socio-economic development issues.

Project Aim
To bring messages to villagers through art and drama, this performance arts-based project involves the training of 20 Singaporean and 15-20 Kannada youth participants in acting skills, vocal skills, mime & movement.

Area of Concern
Marriages are arranged for children when they young. They get married at around the age of 15 years old. Problems arise as they are not mature enough to understand the responsibilities of maintaining a family.

Possible side project
A documentary on the issue of child marriages in the Indian community, and its implications for education, family and society. Along with a photographic documentation on the issue, to stage an exhibition in Singapore in collaboration with Project Prajna and The Choice Initiative to raise awareness of the issue.

Extensions
Post expedition, participants have the option of extending their stay in South India and Sri Lanka, our transit stop. However, all post-expedition costs will be borne solely by the participants.
