Rondalla Activities

    1985
    The group performed at the Civil Defence Carnival 1985 at the SCDF HQ on the 22nd December.

    The 2nd "Fiesta Rondalla" concert was held at the Singapore Conference Hall on December 15th. The 29-strong group, to their credit, arranged much of the repertiore themselves. The programme highlighted a specially commissioned work in semi-concerto style, entitled Music for Rondalla, Bass, and Percussion, by classical guitarist and composer Robert Luse. A work in 3 movements, it is scored for 2 guitars, double bass, mirimba, xylophone, and timpani, in addition to plucked strings. The Symphonic Rondalla, by Filipino composer Jerry Dedap, incorporated 3 Filipino folk songs into a symphonic texture colored with the addition of cymbals, mirimba, double-bass, bass, and snare drum, and the timpani.

    14th September, NUS Rondalla and NUS Folk Dancers performed at the Handicraft Centre.

    The group performed for the first Inter-varsity Day NTI / NUS at the NUS Campus on the 24th August 1985.

    On the 31st July, the NUS Rondalla performed a Lunch-time performance at LT 13, NUS. The repertiore included Bengawan Solo, Stand Up for Singapore, and themes from films like Love Story, The Woman in Red, and Ice Castles.

    NUS Rondalla performed at the National Library Queenstown Branch on 8th June 1985.
