Rondalla Activities

    1991
30 Dec 1991, the group provided music at the NUS/NTU Staff Farewell Dinner for Dr Tony Tan. Dr Tony Tan was the Minister of Education. The event was held at the Mandarin Ballroom.

12 Nov 1991, the group treated the staff of MAS to a lunchtime performance at the MAS theatrette. The audience was mesmerised with the sight of the unusual instruments, and the sweet strains that followed with a selection of familiar themes. As a early hearald to the Christmas spirit, the performance was capped off with a chirpy version of 'Deck the Halls'.

The annual Fiesta Rondalla concert was held at the World Trade Centre Auditorium in November. The concert included dance, and guest flautist, singers, and even a folk jazz ensemble. The folk jazz ensemble was established in 1982 for the adventure of playing music that was new and improvisatory, and which sought to mix idioms from Indian and Western music. To the delight of the audience, our folk singers sang and led in a sing-along session of a medley of familiar favorites from the 1960s.

8th September, the group performed at the Mountbatten Community Centre New Wing Opening Ceremony.

3rd September, the ensemble had the opportunity to play for a group of 130 visiting Japanese university students who had sailed to Singapore for a summer vacation. The event, which was held at the NUS Temasek Hall, also featured 3 cultural dances, and a guitar solo.

30th August, the group performed at LT 13, nus, a lunchtime campus concert. The concert was sponsored by ESSO Singapore.

16th August 1991 was the 10TH ANNIVERSARY of the NUS Rondalla.

On 31st May (and 18th October) 1991, the group had a 2nd Cassette Recording. The recording was sponsored by Mountbatten Constituency. Directed by Joe Peters, and conducted by Low Mei Ling, the cassette recording included tunes like Serenade, Voici Le Mois De May, Lulay, Stranger in Paradise, and Miami Beach Rhumba.

24th May 1991, NUS Rondalla performed at the Prize Presentation Dinner of the Inaugural NUS Alumni Golf Tournament, patronised by then President of the Republic of Singapore, Mr Wee Kim Wee. The event was held at Mandarin Court, Mandarin Orchard. All proceeds of the event was donated to the NUS Students' Loan Fund.
