Rondalla Activities

    1992
    NUS Rondalla provided entertainment music at the Yunnan Inn Restuarant on the 20 Dec 1992 on the occasion of the marriage of Mr Laurence Sng and Miss Mary Tan.

    The 3rd Cassette Recording was held at the Centre of Musical Activities (CMA) Studios, on the 8th Nov 1992. The recording was sponsored by the National Arts Council, and included tunes like Sweet Memories, Godfather, Kings Morisco, Golden Earrings, and La Bamba.

    26th October, NUS Rondalla performed a morning performance at the WTC Amphitheatre for the World Bicycle Charity Ride 1992. The event was held in aid of the National Kidney Foundation (NKF).

    16th October, the group performed at the United Nations Day Dinner, an event organised by the United Nations Association of Singapore. The event was held at the Mandarin Hotel.

    The annual Fiesta Rondalla Concert was held at the Jubilee Hall Raffles Hotel. The event was sponsored by ESSO Singapore, and supported by NUS Campus Concerts, and guest stars from NUS Choir. A repertiore piece, Song for Mother, was offered to NUS Rondalla by a Japanese oboe and guitar duo who performed in NUS earlier that year. The piece was arranged to feature the Tipangkluang, a unique creation of the Philippines, The Tipangkluang featured in the concert is the 8th instrument made for export. It is made up of 2 and a haldf octaves of angkluangs mounted on a rack, allowing for one player to play an entire set of angkluangs, instead of a usual angkluang ensemble. The tipangkluang was expected to become a permanent feature for the group.

    14th October, the group performed a lunchtime Campus Concert at LT 13, NUS.

    8 Aug, the group performed at the 3rd NUS Alumni Day Garden Tea Party. The event was held at the NUS Forum grounds.

    2nd Aug 1992, NUS Rondalla performed as a guest artiste for the Symphony in the Park: Tchaikovsky's 1812 Overture. The event was held over acres of lush parkland of the Singapore Botanic Gardens. The grand orchestral force, a combination of 2 symphony orchestras, further supplemented by a symphonic band, complete with special cannon effects.

    8 July 1992, the group performed at the Raffles Hall Orientation Program.

    30 May 1992, the NUS Rondalla performed 'An Evening with the Rondalla'. The group was promoted during the event as an instrumental group which is versatile and accessible to the people.
