Rondalla Activities

    1996
    Members Ms Julia Goh, Seet Ser Reen, and Mr Chong Chun Kwok performed on 23 September at the NUS Alumni Day 1996.

    Members Ms Julia Goh Ling Tze and Mr Chong Chun Kwok performed as guest performers at the NUS Piano Ensemble 'Images' concert held at NUS LT 13. The duo performed a Beethoven piece, 'Music for Mandolin and Piano: 1. Sonatine, 2. Adagio Ma Non Troppo'. Other guest performers for the event included Jiri Heger (Principal Violist of the Singapore Symphony Orchestra) and NUS Dance Synergy.

    4th September, a 7-member NUS Rondalla ensemble made its way to the JTC Theatrette to perform at the 'Jurong Jamboree' organised by the Jurong Town Corporation (JTC).

    23 Aug, the group performed 'An Evening with NUS Rondalla' at the NUS LT 13.The event was organised by the Centre for the Arts, and sponsored by ESSO Singapore, the group's repertoire for the event included 'Bali', 'Bengawan Solo', 'Missing', and 'Malaguena'.

    1st July, a 10-member NUS Rondalla ensemble made its way to the Bukit Panjang Government High School to perform. The same group also made their way down to Singapore Chinese Girls' School on 18th July. The two school performances were a part of the Arts Education Programme 1996.

    28 Feb 1996, the annual 'Fiesta Rondalla' concert was performed at the DBS Auditorium. The NUS Rondalla ensemble performed 'Philippines Medley No. 2', 'Rondo from Horn Concerto No. 4', 'El Bimbo', 'So Nice', and 'The Wing Beneath My Wings', amongst other pieces. Two mandolins and a guitar trio performed a beautiful 'Flower Song', while a quartet, comprising of a bandurria, a mandolin, a laud, and a guitar, performed a 'Ballet from Rosamunde'. The Los Pintos, a three-men acoustic guitar band, were guest performers of the night. The Los Pintos play Spanish, pop to oldies of the 1950s and 1960s music using a Mariachi approach to the presentations. Also in the limelight was the NUS Rondalla Graduate Group which performed 'Ballet Suite', 'Sueno de Amor Despues Del Baile' and 'Meditation'.
