Rondalla Activities

    1999
    4th August, NUS Rondalla performed item 'Sweet Memory, Blue Hawaii, and Lulay' in the Cultural Activities and Community Service (CACS) Club Cultural Concert 'Asia Live' 1999. Other performing groups in the concert included CACS Rhumba; CACS Harmonica; CACS Lindy Hop; CACS Cha-Cha; CACS JAZZ Dance; and CACS Guitar. Invited guests to the event included Mrs Erlin Susanti Barnard from the NUS Southeast Asia Studies Indonesia Bahasa Department, Miss Nguwen Bich Thuan from the NUS Southeast Asian Studies Vietnamese Language Department, and Dr Titima Suthiwan from the NUS Southeast Asia Studies Thai Language Department.

    21 July, the group performed a lunchtime concert at the Ng Eng Teng Gallery. The repertoire included 'Sampaguita', 'Tanko Bushi', 'El Condo Pasa', 'Blue Hawaii', , and 'Take Her to Jamaica', amongst other pieces.

    12 June, NUS Rondalla was honored with the opportunity to perform at the 101st Anniversary of Declaration of Philippine Independence. Former President, Mr. Wee Kim Wee, was present as well.

    The annual 'Fiesta Rondalla' concert was held on 27 Feb 1999 at the Alliance Francaise AGF Theatre. The event was supported by FM 99.5, a station of the National Arts Council. The repertoire included the enthralling interpretations of Gershwin's 'Sweet and Low-down', J. S. Bach 'Jesu', Joy and Man's Desiring', and 'Dance', which was accompanied by a lovely candle dance performance by member Ms. Vivien Goh. There were trio performances of pieces such as 'Serenata', and 'Desafinado', and a quartet performance of 'Rondalla Aragonesa'.
