Rondalla Activities2000 8 September, NUS Rondalla had the opportunity to perform with NUS Choir, NUS Indian Instrumental Ensemble, NIS Guitar Ensemble, NUS Symphonic Band, and NUS Electronic Music Lab in 'The Magic of Music - an event of the Opening Festival of the University Cultural Centre (UCC)'. The Guest of Honour for the night was Mr Liu Thai Ker, Chairman of the National Arts Council. 21 Aug, members Melissa, Charlene, Jayce, and Kok Gheng, performed rondalla quartet & harmonica items 'La Tarara', and 'Los Pastores' at LT 13, NUS. The performance was to entertain Japanese students from Hygogo who sailed Singapore for a summer visit. 30 July, the group performed for the 'Harmony in Diversity: Multi-Racial Festival' at the IPAM Building, Civil Service College. The event was aimed towards promoting racial harmony, and allowing each community to preserve its own culture and appreciate others. 29 July, the group performed an evening performance at Clementi Central. 'Saturday! @ Clementi Central', held every 2nd and last Saturday of each month, was presented by the Tanjong Pajar Community Development Council, and organised by the Centre for the Arts, NUS and Singapore Polytechnic. 11 July, the group performed a lucntime concert at Ng Eng Teng Gallery, NUS. The performance was presented by the NUS Musuems and the Centre for the Arts. 25 Feb, the group performed a lunchtime performance at the Science Park Auditorium. The annual 'Fiesta Rondalla' concert was held on 20 Feb at the YMS Auditorium. The NUS Rondalla ensemble performed pieces such as 'Water Music - Allegro', 'Souvenir de Porto Rico', 'Carnavalito', 'Song for Mother', 'Malaguena from Andalucia', 'Tico Tico', and 'Disney Selection'. There were quintet and quartet performances. President of NUS Rondalla, Miss Vivien Goh, danced to a lovely rendition of 'Pobreng Alindahaw'. 15 Feb, 4 members of NUS Rondalla ensemble formed a rondalla quartet, to perform with a harmonica player, pieces 'La Tarara', 'Los Pastores', and 'Love Story', for the NUS Harmoica Band annual concert 'Reeds of Life: Soiree 2000'. The event was held at the Victoria Concert Hall. The Guest of Honour was Mr. Zainal Abidin Rasheed, Senior Parlimentary Secretary Ministry of Foreign Affairs. 21 Jan, NUS Rondalla performed at the 'Fiesta 2000' organised by the NUS Students' Science Club at LT 31. The repertoire included 'Pobreng Alindahaw', 'Blue Hawaii', 'Sweet Memories' and 'Tico Tico'.
