Memories

I knocked on your door,
Apprehensive and insecure.
Will you turn me away?
Shut the door in my face?
So solemn you stood before me,
Your eyes without emotion.
Are you free tonight?
I asked my question.
You saw me safely home,
A date was what I promised you
Don’t worry, it won’t be long
Just be with me for a spell.
Let us act in that little play
I’ll be the captured princess
And you’ll rescue me, gallant knight
Take me to your castle far away.
We went to sit on the gondola,
Just like what a pair of lovers would,
Watching the chocobos race,
Listening to the sounds of laughter and joy.
The fireworks exploding above the sky
Bursts of color, blazing in the night
I couldn’t find the words to say
So I let the moment in silence slip away.
I wish this would never end
Yet I knew time was falling
Through my fingers
Grain by grain.
What we had could only be so brief,
But I thank you for the memories,
Goodbye then, my friend,
And maybe someday we’ll meet again.
