Shadow of Death

I sat in darkness,

But there was no serenity,

No peace...

Unclenching the hand

That gripped my sword,

I stare at it in silence.

Soon it will end her life,

Snuff her brilliance out

Like a candle.

She was there

On her knees,

Hands clasped in prayer.

She knew when I came

But she did not run,

Did not cry.

She made no defense

As my blade pierced her breast,

Through bone and flesh.

Her blood bloomed,

A crimson rose

Upon her innocent heart.

I glanced down at her

Lying beneath my feet,

I had no regret.

She knew she had to die.

It was her destiny

To give her life.

The world was in my hands

A fragile orb of glass

That I could break.

I was to live forever.

I was to be immortal.

I was to be god.

But it was all lies,

As I stood beneath

The shadow of death.

My body was destroyed.

My soul was shattered.

My life was nothing but a lie.
