Prologue:
Flower Rain
The
wind swept through the sakura trees, a light zephyr that wove its invisible way
through the branches. It was gentle yet that light brief caress was strong
enough to dislodge the delicate flowers; scattering dismembered petals upon the
ground. A white figure made his way slowly through the swirling rain of fallen
flowers, strolling leisurely. He stretched out one pale hand so fair that the
skin seemed to glow with a translucent sheen and grasped a handful of petals.
Slender long fingers curled and clenched ever tighter to crush the fragile pink
blossoms before letting the remnants slip through.
Fragile...
so fragile...
The
broken petals swirled away from him, caught once again by another draft of wind
before. The same pale hand raised once again but this time to brush aside
strands of platinum silver hair, revealing eyes of a darker mercurial shade.
Yet these eyes, one of flesh and one of glass, were no windows to the soul
within. Like two pieces of cold beautiful silver crystals, they held not
feelings but unfathomable secrets. Yet as they surveyed the poignant ephemeral
beauty, the expression they held seemed almost melancholic.
Every
season the sakura falls...
I
remember...
So many
memories...
He
smiled somewhat self-depreciating and continued to walk, his hands thrust into
the deep pockets of his white trench coat. Perhaps it had just all been a
coincidence but most of the significant events of his life occurred during the
times when the sakura bloomed and withered. Muraki Kazutaka lit a cigarette and
reminisced as he took a breath and drew the white smoke into his lungs.
Memories...
Author's
note:
I know
this is terribly short but bear with me since I was working on the fic as a one
whole piece before I decided to break it into chapters. The better parts are
coming right up!
