Maalan V.Narayanan is a writer- journalist, who has the distinction of leading the premier Tamil journals namely India Today(Tamil), Dinamani , Kumudam and Kungumam as its editor He is also a well respected writer and a popular broadcaster. He has travelled extensively and is currently the Editor of Sun News Channel.

As a Rotary Foundation Scholar, Maalan attended University of Florida, Gainesville, USA and earned his masters degree in journalism. He was a student good standing and was honoured with the Award for Academic Excellence in Advanced Editing, by the University He also created a prototype for an electronic newspaper for the University.
In India Maalan served as the editor of India Toady – Tamil Edition which he launched in Aug 1989 and also editor of Dinamani (Tamil newspaper from the Indian Express Group) between 1993and 1995 and editor of Kumudam during 1995 to 1999.
As a journalist, he has accompanied, Prime Minister Narasima Rao, Prime Minister Vajpayee, and President K.R.Narayanan, as a member of their media delegation during their official visits to various countries. He has covered land mark international events like Common wealth Heads of Governments Meet (at Durban South Africa), and Indo- European Union Summit (at Lisban, Portugal).
He has lectured on contemporary political and literary issues at the University of Melbourne, National University of Singapore, and University of Malaysia on invitation This year on Sept .11 he addressed at the University of Melbourne on Kashmir.
He was a regular broadcaster for BBC Tamil service. He was presenting a newsletter, every month, for over 10 years.
His stories are translated into English and in other Indian languages and have appeared in the leading magazines like Illustrated Weekly Of India, India Today, Decan Herald, Vipula and Matrubhoomi. His stories in translation find a place in the Anthology of Morden Tamil Stories published by Writers Workshop, Calcutta.
He has travelled extensively, in India and abroad. He has visited, United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Philippines, Thailand, Japan, Australia, Portugal, Singapore, Malaysia, South Africa, and Italy on invitations.
