November Camp 2002

On 27th November 2002, the November Camp cum Farewell Party was held. Everybody was eagerly looking forward to the camp as this was not any ordinary camp. It was a camp where we had our farewell party for our beloved ex- NCOs. We all wanted to put up the best and the most memorable farewell party for them to show our utmost appreciation. We wanted to thank them for imparting their valuable knowledge and wisdom, and for nurturing us into caring and responsible leaders.

Everybody fall-in at seven in the cool and cheerful morning. The NCOs were practically running around the whole school to make sure that things went smoothly and were according to our tight schedule. The squad ICs were busy taking attendance and we, the camp coordinators, were discussing about how we should brief the campers. Soon, it was time for everybody to assemble under the rotunda, where our former OC, Mrs Liang Yian Hoon, declared the camp opened. Then the fun began.

The farewell party was smashing. The interior and the decorations of our selected venues were luxurious, and elegance was in the air. We did not feel that we were attending a party, but a grand ball. Golden amber lights shone gently, and the flames of ivory and lavender candles swayed slowly. Soft lamenting music embraced our hearts and the delicious aroma of delicacies teased our tastebuds. Watt Disney's fairytales had come to life.

The performances comprised of modern funk, an acappella, ballroom dancing, and a musical. The secondary one cadets did their version of Aaron Kwok's para para sakura while the secondary two cadets sang beautifully to the song "I Love You Baby". Our bilingual Operational Officers also joined in the fun by singing Malay and Mandarin songs with the accompaniment of the guitar, piano and the flute. The performances ended with our ballroom dancing, "Dance With Me".

The applause was thunderous and triumph shone on our tired faces as we indulged ourselves in the 7-course meal. The farewell party was a huge success and the credit went out to everyone, especially the emcees, Imran and Fiona, and the Special Effects Personnel, Khairul, Azhari and Faridah. Thank you people. You rock!

Time flew past quickly and the farewell party came to an end. We clung on stubbornly to our ex- NCOs and did not want them to leave. We did not want the party to end. But the clock chimed, and we were brought back to the harsh reality. Our beautiful fairytale had ended...
