CCA Recruitment 2003

Everyone came early on 11th January 2003 with wings of excitement fluttering in our hearts. No one could stop talking about the items that were to be performed in the early afternoon. Everybody was occupied with their various duties; setting up of the NPCC booth, polishing our victorious trophies, arranging the pictures, etc.

     Those involved in the performance segment were quickly separated and moved to different areas of the school to perfect their respective items. "Bang!" and "Ouch!" were commonly heard during the Taekwondo training. While there were slight injuries here and there, the cadets and the NCOs still preserved as they were determined to put up a fabulous performance. Luckily, a comical incident whereby a cadet ripped his pants lightened everybody's tensed mood.

     The precision drill squad, which made up of half of the secondary 3 squad, was trained by VI Farhana, Imran and Kim Hwee. They spent most of the time under the scorching hot sun synchronizing their perfectly designed precision drill.

     Unfortunately, it started to rain at noon. The members of every CCA, from the NCC cadets to the statue-like drama club members started to panic. However, we were calm and composed, and we worked efficiently to keep our booth dry to maintain our top standard. All activities and performances were delayed until late afternoon.

     The first performance was by the band followed by the NCC Land and then...it was us! We took a deep breath and uttered a prayer to calm our nerves. The first item was the Taekwondo blue belt pomsae pattern. That went smoothly without a hitch but it was not enough to impress the 1500 strong crowd. Next up, was unarmed combat performed by three secondary 3 cadets. Due to the slippery mats, one of the cadets slipped and landed hard on her bottom. However, she managed to impress the whole crowd by flipping and throwing her attackers over her shoulders. To end the Taekwondo segment, an item called TKD Aerobics was performed by 9 of the highest belt levels. The audience was awed by this superb performance of Taekwondo moves combined with aerobics. Our last item was performed by our smart looking precision drill squad. Their flawless drill managed to further capture the hearts of our audiences.

     The response to these performances was overwhelming. Adrenaline flooded our veins and left our hearts beating with the power of a symphony. As a result, we managed to get a good cohort of secondary 1 cadets this year.
