Sana Hidaka (日高 佐菜, Hidaka Sana), Seiyuu: Shinnosuke Tachibana, Madoka Kimura (Child), Age: 16, Hair / Eye Color: Black / Brown, 2nd Year Student (Class 2-F) at Sakuranomori High, Cousin of Aoi Oribe (Visual Novel Version - Birthday: 13 October 1990, Zodiac Sign: Libra, Blood Type: A)
Sana is the main protagonist of the series. He left Sakuranomori during his childhood, and during the beginning of the series he comes back to live by himself in the apartment building owned by Aoi's parents. He apparently had a crush on Nanaka before he left and still holds those feelings for her. He used to play the piano, but he forgot every song except the song Nanaka wrote for him which he says is very important to him. The reason why he came back to Sakuranomori is unknown, but it appears that he does not get along well with his mother. He has a waterproof wristwatch which he treasures very much. Apparently it was given to him by his other friends before he returned to Sakuranomori. He refuses to take it off and show it to anyone else, not even to Syusuke. He has a fear of blood.
When he first return to Sakuranomori, he
initially notices things may not have changed that much. But he will soon find
out that it did. The first change he notice is one of his female childhood
friend, Aoi Oribe, growing up into a beautiful young lady. Her personality did
not change much but her body did tremendously. Next, he did not recognize
another female childhood friend of his, Nanaka Yatsushiro, and totally think of
her as someone else. He earn a slap on his face from her as she is someone that
has been waiting for his return ever since he left. Joining his childhood
friends in school, he learn that he become the male class representative due to
their influence and end up having to work with Nanaka who is still angry with
him. But after Nanaka accidentally discover that he did not really forget about
her especially when he still remember the song Nanaka played before he left,
Nanaka decides to forgive him.
He befriend another female by the name of Asami Hoshino who helped him get to
the committee meeting meant for all class representatives after the then angry
Nanaka refuse to go there with him. He allow Asami to become a part of his
social circle and even agree to go with her to help out in a old folk home. In
the midst of this, he meet a young girl named Hinako Mochida who is once saved
by Syusuke Wakatsuki after being bullied by some boys. She initially has a crush
on Syusuke and demand Sana to help her. When she eventually confess to Syusuke
and get rejected by him, Hinako become close to Sana as though he is her elder
brother, at one time, even decide to go to his apartment to stay when her
parents are said to be away for the weekends. Discovering that during that
weekend happens to be Hinako's birthday, Sana waste no time asking his friends
to celebrate her birthday together. Hinako's relationship with Sana grew even
close after that.
Realizing that Nananka has since changed after he left Sakuranomori, Sana is
able to find out what actually happen. Remembering that they have their own
private mailing service during their childhood days, he decides to go check on
the mail post that can only be unlocked by the two only, discovering numerous
letters from Nanaka and some that read "Help Me!!!". He then ask Syusuke what
exactly happen to Nanaka which Syusuke told him and made him speechless. Feeling
bad and helpless that he wasn't there whne she need him the most, Sana vow to
protect her always from that day onwards.
After Syuri and Syusuke left town, Sana is sad of course. He soon receive a delivery from Syusuke and it is Syusuke's fishing rod that he treasured the most. With that, he decide to go on a camping trip with Nanaka and Aoi. Aoi never came. However, both Sana and Nanaka had a good time there. He even show Nanaka the secret hideout he and Syusuke have and swore not to tell anyone. Most significantly, he is there when Nanaka finally remembered what happened during the fire.
He tries to be there for her as well when Nanaka began to shut herself from the outside world in her own room ever since then. Sana visit her home to see her everyday but always end up going home without doing that. Until one fine evening, he came to her home and discover himself being alone with Nanaka. Her aunt is out to buy ingredients for that night's dinner and she is able to let Sana in before she go. Sana soon realize that Nanaka has came out of her room to the bathroom. Thinking that she is going for a bath, Sana waited for her. But after she never came out of there for a long time, Sana fear the worse and charge into the bathroom to find her in the bathtub with blood flowing from her left wrist. Fighting his own fear, he manage to drag her out of the water and call for an ambulance.
Days later, he return to see her and tell her what happened to him after he left town. He has been bullied by schoolmates since middle school and tries to endure the abuse until he just cannot take it anymore. Sana committed suicide but survived, however everything changes for him. Before returning back to town, Sana become antisocial and only when he return, he started to regain his former self. He is seeking the same thing as Nanaka did a long time ago: The old Sana Hidaka.
Years later, Sana proposed to Nanaka prior to her musical performance at the Sakuranomori Nature Park. Nanaka accepted it and Sana told Yuzuki about the news. She give him a caramel to congratulate him.
