Syusuke is one of the four childhood friends Sana left behind when he moved, and is still one of his new friends when he returned. He is the best friend of Sana and the only male besides Sana himself of the five friends. He is the younger twin of Syuri Wakatsuki. Yuzuki refers him as the bottom of the Wakatsuki twins. He is a member of the Kendo Club and enjoys fishing as well.

He is one who suggested Sana to be the male class representative in order for him to patch things up with Nanaka who is the female class representative and is still angry with him not being able to remember her like his sister. Even though he likes fishing, Syusuke isn't good at getting fishes to hook onto his fishing rod at all. During the fishing and bathhouse trip, he caught nothing at all when a beginner like Sana manage to catch one. He is the one who told Sana about what happened to Nanaka in his absence. Hinako had a crush on him when he helped her scare off some bullies and collect her schoolbag from them. However, Syusuke think that Hinako is too young for him and reject her confession at the aquarium. After what has happened to her sister recently, Syusuke made up his mind that he will start to protect her sister from now on, thinking of leaving house and away from their father and all those who attempt to control or ruin their lives. Syusuke actually did just that, trying to take her sister away before their father could send her to London. But that is found out by Sana at the last minute. Unfortunately, Sana can only have the time to say goodbye to him and her sister.

Syuri is thought to have came back to Sakuranomori Nature Park to attend Nanaka's musical performance with Syusuke.
