1.1.   
Released 1st ALBUM A Song for~XX~ in which all lyrics were written by Hamasaki, herself and got No.1 in Oricon Album Chart at the first week of releasing. Also the album kept No.1 in 5 weeks continuously and as a new comer female artist, this album broke the record in 19 years.

Released 6th SINGLE WHATEVER . The ending theme song of TV Tokyo Network Program, ASAYAN in February. Also the commercial song for Seven Eleven's Valentine Day-White day version.

Remixed her 1st album, A Song for XX by some outstanding remixers, ayu-mi-x was released. This album is a double album made up of "Remix Club-side" and "Acoustic Orchestra-side".

On the 13th Japan Gold Disc Award, her 5th SINGLE Depend on you got award for the Gold Single of New Artist of the Year and the Double
Platinum Album of the Pop Album of the Year.
