| After a bit of chiseling, rasping and filing the heel takes shape. The pink stuff is paper that has the pattern for the shape of the end of the heel. |  | 
| Now the heel is pretty much in its final shape, I sand it to make sure that all the lines flow smoothly. |   | 
| The heel after the neck is attached to the body of the guitar. Notice how the shadows on the contours of the heel are smooth. |  | 
| The heel cap can be fit many ways. Here is one. It uses the same piece of wood as the back of the guitar, extending the grain pattern. |  |
