Saturday Newfound Gap to Pecks Shelter -  214.6 miles from Springer Mt.
Temperature 52 degrees expecting snow higher in the mountains and falling temperature Sunday night below 32 degrees.
I caught the shuttle (A Walk in the Woods) from the Grand Prix at 9:30 am. from Gatlinburg to Newfound Gap.  The young fellow who shuttled the 4 of us was very interesting man.  We no more than got started toward the Gap when he pulled out the latest weather report and had one of the other hikers read it out loud - basically the same report I'd heard on TV that morning - but he was concerned for our safety and wanted us to know what we were in for higher in the mountains.  Also, he wasn't interested in the usual conversation like where you from or what's your destination.  This young man told us al about the Smokies and its history.  We saw smoke that is actually evaporation from the trees and ground vegetation that rises and looks like campfire smoke, thus the blue mountains are called the Smokey Mountains.
