We had to get up early because I still
hadn't done any washing. Stopped by the launder mat, out in
what few things I had to try to get me some clean clothes to put on
before going back to Duncannon. While the clothes were washing
we had a breakfast. |
Arrived in Duncannon and it was to be special day For
Newborn in Need. That is why I hiked south back into Duncannon
yesterday. It was better, the reporters come on Monday and I
didn't think we'd get anybody out on Sunday. |
Nancy, Carol and I met about 4 or 5 mothers, and
Candis Wayner who is the president of Harrisburg NIN. Then we
walked up to the Susquehanna Bridge where the local reporters met
us. Talked to me for a little while. We walked on across
the bridge and he took several pictures of us. |
After we finished, I took the little kid
down to the local pub in town and we had milk and ice cold drinks,
my treat. Then we up to the ice cream stand and they had ice
cream cones. We had an enjoyable morning. |
Then I got all my things together and picked up
my post office drop. Nancy and Carol took me back out to 522
where I stated the days trek. At the post office in Duncannon
I received a package from Connie Sheridan, you great taste in cereal
Connie, Thanks! I also got a letter from Hershel and Helen.
A letter from NIN, enjoyed their letter. I will try to get
something scribbled to you one of these evenings. Ann Marie
sent with Nancy and Carol a bunch of goodies, a lot of snacks,
cocoas and cheese, and noodles which I was very happy to
receive. Thanks Ann that was a surprise and Simon also has
enjoyed his doggie treats. |
I started up Stone Mountain and I
hiking on a road bed that was nothing but ankle busters and on both
sides of me were rock slides. Boulders as big as your houses.
There was no place for anything to grow with all these rocks.
The trees grew right up between then, anywhere they could.
It was that way for several miles, then they had named Stone
Mountain correctly. |
Then it broke out into a roadway that was a lo
smoother, yet rocky like a river bed would be. Then it became
a single path that went up to what used to be a fire tower.
From there it was kind of a downhill through the woods and broke out
to be what appeared to be an old horse buggy buckboard roadway.
Here again the water has washed it out so badly that it was just
stones, The trail was easy, except for all the water from the
previous nights rains. There is just water every place. It
looked like a big river. My feet got soaking wet and made it
difficult hiking through mud as well as the stones. |
Went through the little town that used to
be Yellow Springs. A few remains were still evident.
When I got close to Rausch Shelter it broke out into a pine forest
and looked like a old RR bed. Also above me to the right was
huge big rock piles and I couldn't figure out what they were doing
there. |
I started toward the shelter and was going
to stay at Rausch Shelter, but I heard that it was full. I
went on that way towards the shelter and decided I would camp close
to it. It was a good water supply source to me, so I tented
for the night about a tenth of mile from the shelter. I got my
tent pretty well set up, these 3 people came by and said we heard
that somebody needs some medical attention at the Rausch Shelter.
I told them I didn't know anything about it, that I had just arrived
and I hadn't heard of anyone. So they went on. They
didn't come back out until 10:30 - 11:00pm. The only
reason I saw them is because Simon barked. |
It has threatened to rain, a lot of thunder
in the distance. I gotten my super and crawled into the tent
and went sound asleep, but it never did rain. |
