Eckville Shelter to Blue Summit Mountain.
Today was more of the same, we've had a battle with water. I
got my water at the Eckville shelter from the faucet and I'm
carrying about 3 liters, enough for Simon and I for 11 miles.
I did pass one creek as we got started and Simon gat a drink out of
that. We had to cross a couple of bridges and there was
another little water hole in the first mile. No water at all
until we got to Summit Mountain. |
At the Allen Town Hiking Club Shelter there
is no water. A beautiful log shelter. Went up Hog
Mountain and it's one of these mountains that went on and on.
Today the trail was nothing but rocks, ankle busters the whole way.
Made it very slow hiking. There was large boulders that you
had to hike over or through. I don't know how to explain the
scrambled mess that those boulder are in, they looked like big rocks
that has just been dumped and you're supposed to try to hike through
them. A lot of times there weren't any blazes, they've worn
off rocks and there is no way you can see which way the trail goes
because, but Simon knows the trail because he can scent where other
people have gone, and he does real good.

I got to Blue Mountain Bed and Breakfast on
PA 309 and got something to eat. This is where we have to
re-supply water in order to go on through the next 17 -18 miles.
It was about 2:30pm when I got here, to early for me to quit, but
yet at the same time I got to thinking about the water supply, if I
cooked tonight and cooked in the morning and Simon would need water
throughout the night. I decided to camp in my tarp in the back
yard of the B & B. So far it's worked out pretty good.
I've got a nice big picnic table in a quiet shaded area. I'll
have a better rest than I did in the shelter. |
