Getting read to leave the Budget Motel about 9am to get back on the trail.  I'm just doing about 10 miles today.  My next stop will be Mt. Vernon, NJ
Spirit, I hope you're reading the web site once in a while, if I were you I think I would take somebody with me that could shuttle you through the Shenandoah, you could make better time, there are some rough areas, but easy access to the skyline drive.
Tom Ritchie, if your reading the web site. I would go through PA another time when there's no water shortage.
Starting the AT at 10:40am.  Crossing the Delaware River.  The river is to very wide or deep, but this bridge is very long, when the semis go across the bridge just shakes up and down.
Just about the first road hiking I've had to do on the AT.  I don't like this being out on highway with Simon.  I'm standing in front of the visitors center and I can see the mountains I'm going up and it looks like nothing but rock cliffs.  It's about 5 miles straight up and one of the locals told me it levels off once you get up there.
Entering Worthington State Forest, I have to go under I80.  This is the Dunn Hill Creek natural area of Worthington Forest.  The little stream going up through here sure is gorgeous with little water falls.  I can hear the little water falls!
I've now started up the trail.  It looks like quite an accent 3.7 miles up to Sun Fish Pond.  I can still look down and see the creek.  It's beautiful in here, lot of ferns and a nice cool day, a lot more enjoyable that the last two.  This is one of the prettiest areas that I have been in northern PA.  Hiking on top of some large boulders right in the middle of the road.  The road is still rocky, nothing real sharp or pointy.  They do have stone water breaks in the road to prevent wash out as much as they can.
I'm still scrambling over larger boulders in the trail, but they are easier than the ones I've just been over.  I'm at the Sun Fish Pond area, a forty-one acre glacial pond, one of the natural 7 wonders of NJ.  I'm standing at the edge of the pond looking down into a little cove surrounded by small mountains.  The wind is blowing and making the water have ripples on it and it sparkles like glass.  Lot of frogs in the pond.  I see a sun fish.  The bench I've been resting on  makes a inspirational place to sit.  A good spot to think.
I'm hiking on a very rooted, rocky trail right between laurel bushes.  I came across the lady and her 2 sons that I had seen earlier, I had gotten of the trail and hadn't seen any blazes for a while and they followed me the blaze where I left off at the turn.  I had just missed the turn.  As we were coming the lady for NY saw a bear and that was the first bear sighting in NJ.
I've been going up over the ridge line away from the pond.  Still a lot of berries and laurel.  I standing here at the outdoor center and the sign says To Trodden MA 881.9 miles north and Springer Mt 1,277.3 miles south.  I hiked with the mother and her 2 sons the biggest part of the day.  They needed some help following the blazes.
This is the best hiking in the that 2 weeks that I've thoroughly enjoyed.  I got the the camps ground and took a shower and had a big sub sandwich with the works.  Good night.
