Hot Springs to Allen Gap, NC - Headed to Will Peake Country
My Husband dropped me off about 8:30am at the French Broad River rafting parking lot.
I followed the French Broad River along an old stagecoach trail by Painted Rocks before the trail went into the woods.  The Painted Rocks were jagged, diagonal and vertical rocks that looked much like flint found in Ohio.  Good views from the ridge top, easy trail through hardwoods.  Took some pictures overlooking the French Broad River and the Community of Hot Springs.
I came by a pond, stopped and ate a bite while enjoying the warn sunshine.  It looked like an area where there once was an old farm house.  sure enough, as I hiked North, I saw evidence to prove my speculation. It is now known as Mill ridge Trailhead.  The farm had once raised tobacco and grazed cattle.  Now NC forestry Service and the agriculture division use the area as a brooding wild life protection area for turkeys.
Will met me on top of Allen Gap
about 2 miles up the trail.  I enjoyed his
company while hiking down to the gap.

Simon certainly enjoyed being back on the trail after a well deserved ret while I went through the Smokey Mts.
