| Leaving Gap a
9:25am. Met a lady from NY by the name of Amoeba and I'm going
to be hiking with her today to Nolichucky River. Now I'm in
the Pisghah National Wilderness in NC headed towards Erwin Tenn.
The path is pine needles and leaf litter . but its very rootie with
large pine trees, rhododendron and a gurgling stream going down the
mountain as I'm going up the mountain. I certainly enjoyed
talking with Amoeba today. We might hike again tomorrow or in
the future up north. She is actually from the Mass. - NY area.
I had lunch a No-business Shelter. A beautiful area with some
huge boulder rocks in one area much like Hocking Hills covered with
moss and Galax. Met a couple of locals at No-business Shelter
and somebody had left a tuna lunchable there with some crackers and
the only shelter I've seen so far with 2 bottles of whisky. |
| Left there and
I'm now hiking up Simple Hill which is a above Erwin and then go
down into the Nolichucky River. This path has been relatively
easy, a few rocky area where I had to pick my way through, but
mostly pine needle or woods debris covered. This will be just
over a 10 mile hike and my foot is feeling pretty good today.
I'll soak it again tonight and it'll feel pretty good in morning.
It's not as swollen now as it was before. |
| Coming up this
hill there's a branch of neat looking grape vines growing down
in the valley. I don't think I'm going to try any on then out,
but they sure do look interesting. The leaves a just barley
starting to pop out on the ridge tops, but down in the valley
everything is lush and green. |
| It's been an
overcast day and brief showers off and on. Off in distance
overlooking the mountains it's really hazy. I finished at
Nolichucky River at Johnny Hostel about 5:30pm. An end to
another beautiful hiking day. Amoeba, Will, Sundance and I
went into the urban burrito and had our supper together. |
