I got up this
morning at 6:30am and for some reason I can't get moving, it is now
9:15am and a bright sunny day. So far the trail had been
smooth packed dirt and leaf dust, easy hiking. This trail is
going around the side of the mountain. Just passed Summit VA
road. Route 601 one mile and Route 600, seven miles away. |
Coming into a
deep mature white pine forest and they all look like they've been
planted. I just passed 2 crystal creeks and climbed a short
steep hill that leveled off, but it looks like I'm starting to climb
again. A lot of ground pine moss in this area. Also
since I've gotten into VA, I been seeing some holly trees in the
woods. |
I've just come
through an old fence line gate. I also saw what looks like cow
manure in the trail, but between here and White Top Mountain
there's wild ponies and cows that run. I'm now crossing over
an old fence into a pasture field. This is on of those walk
around styles where you walk around one way and turn and cut back
the other way. This opens into a beautiful hill side pasture
field, and from the top I can see a huge wooded mountain, probably
where I going. I've got to climb a big set of log steps to the
top of the hill. It'll be interesting to see what Simon does
when he comes across the wild cows or ponies. At home when he
see a cow or horse looking at his he tucks his tail between his legs
and heads for the barn |
A lot of
yellow rag wood and daises in this area. I can see the
mountains from the area where I came from, as a matter of fact
I can see mountains almost at 360 degrees. There's a big grape
vine hanging in the trail waiting for someone to swing on it, but
it's not going to be me! I'm coming up on a house, I don't
know whether it's vacant or livable. I also see a lot of white man's
flowers down in the ravine. It looks like they have been
throwing trash in there over a period of years. I see the cows
over in the next field laying under the trees cooling themselves.
I believe this house is vacant. You wouldn't believe how
people have vandalized this nice brick |
