Venice
Our first two nights in Italy were spent in Venice.

April 4, 2003 - Venice
Scott couldn't sleep the night before. Was it jetlag? Or could it have been the three cappuccinos the day before?

In the morning we took a free boat ride to Murano Island to a glass factory. Saw them making very ornate chandeliers (the same chandeliers that were in our hotel and similar to those we would see throughout our trip). The "price" of the boat ride was to have them try to sell us expensive glass things. The pitch was very well designed. We started in a room with items from $200 - $5000 a piece. After we said no, we slowly moved to another room ($50-$100) and then to another room $15-$50. We didn't buy anything and were on our way to explore all the little shops on the island within a half an hour.

During our whole time in Venice we looked for glass wine stoppers that our friends Linda and Derek asked us to find. Finally, as we walked around Murano (a very quaint little island), we found some nice glass wine stoppers. Our time in Venice was just about up. Sad to leave, we were off to Florence on a 2:30 train. In retrospect, it would have been nice to stay in Venice longer. We'll be back.
