This event has to be one of the the highlights of my year. The auction is set up at beautiful Playa Grande beach and draws dairy farmers and spectators from all over the country. Early in the morning all the cows are trucked in and tied up all over the coconut grove.
By 9:00 am fifty or so cows are parked everywhere and by 10:30 the place is packed with cows, horses, pickup truck, cattle trucks, and people.
The auction started up at 12 and went on for 6 hours. 101 lots were sold mostly of single dairy cows.
The place was packed. With people wandering around, kids wandering around on the auction platform and excited bidders shouting. A few animals got loose and took off at a run through the crowd for even more fun.
We bought two very nice brown swiss cows who are now happily chewing the cud on our field. In the picture below you can see them both.
