The two main historic religious sites in Colchester were St. Botolph's Priory and St John's Abbey. Both were destroyed during the Civil War, whilst Colchester was under siege. St. Botolph's ruins are still visible today, and remain impressive, but of St. John's, nothing is left except the abbey gatehouse. |
