Question (For Nicole) of the Week
Q: What was your New Year's Resolution?
Taking the Serious Side Of a Joke
By Annonymous January 10, 2004.
A: I don't know... Same as always I guess.. Not just one thing.. It's always to lose weight, but I'd also want to feel better about myself, get a little more confidence... I'd also want to be more open and in touch with my feelings. I remember as a child all of my peers would say that I was too sensitive.. Since then, I have grown to be quite calloused. "Sensitive," back then meant you're too overly emotional, your feelings get hurt way too easily, too touchy, blah blah blah. Now, my feeling still get hurt, but I do nothing about it, and show nobody that they have hurt me. I don't know how that's being made into a resolution. I dno't necessarily want to go back to that "sensitive" kid, but I would like to be able to let people know when they do something to hurt me, and when they do something to make me feel better, how I feel about them, etc.
Not very many people understand me. In fact, so many people think they do, but they really don't. However, when I say that, I'm thinking that it's probably the opposite. Either way, no one can fully know another human being, let alone know themselves. It's quite difficult actually, but once you do come to a state of knowing yourself fully, you will reach a state called Nirvana, where all is then clear. I'm going to have to go to that state sometime in my life. Maybe go to India and meditate or something.. Pull a George Harrison..Just hope I don't end up doing heroine.
I joke around a lot, and not everyone seems to get it. Sometimes, okay well just about all the time.. I think my (lame) joke is pretty darn funny, so when I don't hear laughing right away, I think they didn't get it so I have to explain it to them..Then they laugh.. The worst thing though is when they say, "Yeah.. I know.." so they knew that it was a joke, thought it was lame, and think that it's even more lame that I didn't think they got it, and I had to explain it to them. That is SO embarassing. Oh well. The worst thing is when someone takes what I'm saying seriously, and no matter what I say, they still take it seriously, and it is then made into a big deal. Gahhh.

Dear Nilika,
It's almost Valentines Day... Well, a month away, but still.. I don't know what to get my boy friend. He says that he doesn't want anything, so I don't know what to really do.. Should I just not get him anything? I want this day to be special.. It's our first Valentines Day together..

Dear Funny Valentine,
Does your boy friend have any interests? Anything he likes? Some favorite tv show? Sport? Band? Everyone has to like
something. Just get him something that suits his interests, and also something that he can actually use. The kind of presents that I hate getting are the kind that you can't even use for anything. It just ends up as a dust collector. So get something for him that you know he will use. If you're having trouble figuring out what he would use, you should try and ask him, but in a secret way what he needs...like "you've had that watch for awhile... it has some scratches on it.." I don't know, something like that. Anyway, do get him something. Guys love getting presents, no matter what they say.

Movie Ratings
Love Actually - ***1/2
GREAT movie. Only problem I'd have to say is that it was kind of long, and certain parts felt like they were dragging, but it still was a cute movie.

Venus Boyz - *1/2
Eh... Don't watch this movie unless you're interested in watching an HBO documentary-type movie on how women like to dress up as men, yes there are such things as Drag Kings. It was pretty interesting, but there was no plot, storyline, it was just a documentary. I'd probably watch it if it were on tv, but I wouldn't pay 6 bucks for it if I knew this.

In America-  **1/2
Not a bad movie, about an Irish family who moves to NY from God knows where.. I mean, they're from Ireland, but it shows them crossing the border in a car.. I guess they moved to Canada? But it was unclear. It was interesting, though it didn't seem to really have a plotline, unless the plotline would be about a poor family overcoming hardships and getting over the loss of a son/brother. That was probably it, though I prefer more interresting plots.
