Origin of Character: Sathas Silverglade, son of the notably distinguished mechanic, Talanthas Silverglade, was to have a most unusual future. Sathas was born with unusually high pyschic abilities. At the age of 8, his empathetic abilities manifested, and he was able to 'read' the emotions of others. His empathetic abilities were amazing for someone of his age and lack of training. Although in the beginning, he was incapable of consciously 'reading' emotions, in a few short months, he mastered the ability, and could feel emotions of anyone in a 30' radius at will. This was quickly followed by the development of telekinesis. Although he could not lift heavy objects, he became capable of manipulating several small objects at once. Despite the presence of his rather impressive psychic abilities, Sathas had only a slightly above average intelligence. Left alone, Sathas would have just lived a normal, uneventful life.
Sathas, at the age of 12, became an experimental subject with the application of radiation, chemicals, and cybernetics to improve psychic abilities. The results were dramatic. His empathy became highly developed, and several new abilities became open to him, namely thermokinesis. After the treatment, he could easily not only 'read' emotions, he could implant artificial emotions into people. Also, if he concentrated, he could read someone's thoughts as if they were speaking aloud. He became proficient at rapidly lowering the temperature of objects in his view. The most important effect of the treatment, though, was to his body. The radiation dosages imposed on Sathas caused him to contract a cancer. While it was not malignant, it ate away at his heart and lungs. Although he was given medication to stop the growth of it, the damage was done. His stamina was wrecked, leaving him incapable of extended periods of stressful work. His suddenly awoken powers also left him dazed mentally. Often, he would wander around aimlessly, trying to sort out his thoughts.
He quickly regained focus after a series of shocking events. Upon returning home, the transport he was on was intercepted by Ravens, a group of pirates and outlaws. Seizing the ship and killing several crewmen, they captured the rest to be sold into slavery.
As he was waiting to be sold, without his cancer medication, Sathas' condition made him grow steadily worse. He slowly lost use of his left arm as the cancer spread throughout his body. Although he could still talk, it taxed him severely. He became reliant on telepathy for communication.
Although he was grievously injured, these injuries were not apparent. He was sold to an unscrupulous merchant to be a 'porter'. Sathas did as he was told, faking that he was lifting things, and instead using telekinesis. It was not that bad, until Sathas bumped into a bodyguard, who demanded an apology. Sathas, already exhausted from work, found that he was too weak to speak out loud, and too tired to do it telepathically. He was promptly beaten by the bodyguard, and had both his legs broken. Sathas was then discarded quickly after, since he was unable to work any more. Left to die, he surely would have, were it not that a group of sympathetic travelers found him, and brought him to a hospital. There, he recovered from his injuries. Although he healed from much, there, he never completely recovered. He was still unable to use his left arm, and talking was still a chore. At the least, he could still walk, albeit slowly. These merciless events, however, had affected his mental state more. No longer a youth, he became a bitter, cold, uncaring, and suicidal. Anger at his weakness gave Sathas a thirst for more power, to prove that he would be stronger and superior to anything else. His psychic abilities improved dramatically, most likely from gaining a new focus on life.
It was this allure that brings him to Blue Mars. In his raving mindset, he perceives it as an opportunity to gain revenge on the wrongs inflicted on him, and a way to increase his already substantial psychic powers.
Sathas set about constructing his variation of the standard Raptor design, the Vulture. With it's highly sensitized controls, it offers an unprecedented amount of maneuverability, that only few can handle. The small precognitive powers Sathas possessed were physically shown through his heightened reflexes (actually, the anticipation of events before they actually occur him allows him to react normally, but earlier, giving the outward appearance of quicker reflexes), making him almost perfect for the Vulture.
Serving as a crusader of Savis' cause, and his own twisted sense of justice, Sathas, the fallen psionicist, serves as a willing soldier of Blue Mars.
