The Space Station

The space station, Blue Marz, is actually two space stations that crashed together. During a clash between a militant cult and police forces on a station around Mars called Aria12, the cult set of a bomb. A very, very big bomb. It killed everyone in the cult, about 15% of the population of the station, and nearly all of the police forces opposing the cult. Fortunately for the people living on the station, the breach-control measures sealed off the part of the station that the bomb was set off in. The explosion sent the station careening towards another, bigger colony, only a few kilometers away. The bigger colony, Red Orion, tried to manuever, but it was too big and its thrusters too slow. Aria12 slammed into it full on. Many, many people died when the stations crashed together. The Army Corps of Engineers found a way to keep the inhabitants of the two colonies alive. They welded the stations together. The weather systems were gone, rain fell randomly. A new artificial sun system had to be devised, becuase of the now combined nature of the stations. And for a year, the survivors were happy. The station was renamed Blue Star. A corporation called Blue Mars was created to help the people of the station. It was run by a man named Kanzaki. His company was taken over by a man named Savis. Savis was the very embodiment of evil. He massacred the people, forced them into living in slums. He twisted Blue Mars into Blue Marz, and he was in control. he killed Kanzaki and his wife, and forced his daughter into hiding. This man, Savis, raised an army of Orbital Frames, which were made illegal by the government except for official military use. The government attacked, and thier forces were virtually destroyed. They decided to leave Blue Mars up to its own devices. They hoped that it would destroy itself. It didn't. 11 years after Kanzaki's murder, a resistance group called Nadare pops up, opposing Blue Marz. In those 11 years the station fell into dissaray. The Aria12 portion of the station was totally blocked off by Blue Marz. The only openings between Red Orion and Aria12 were the ventalation systems. Aria12 is mostly ghost towns. Almost all of the Red Orion "citizens" were forced into near-poverty, and lived in vast slums. At least 45% of the station is forest and natural areas meant to simulate Earth. Three large towers dominate the center of Red Orion. They are the headquarters of Blue Marz. They are huge. two are 4 kilometers high, and the main tower is 4.8 km high. Savis designed them to be always seen, always felt, always noticed. It is a symbol of Blue Marz's dominance over the station. Around the towers is a gigantic minefield that extends 3.2 km around the towers. There are about 10 million cloaked mines protecting the towers. The mines cost billions of dollars and cover enough area that nothing can get through. The mines go after orbital frames and other vehicles, but allow cars to pass through, but cars have to go through checkpoints and scans. Theres is a maze through the mines that can be piloted through by orbital frames, but only Blue Marz personnel know it and other frames have to be escorted through. The buildings are centers of smuggling, black marketeering, manufacture of weapons, storage and manufacture of illegal items, narcotic drug processing and use, and other illegal activites. The Blue Marz military is housed in bases around the towers, outside of the minefield. Orbital frame and other vehicular maintenance takes place in these bases, as well as weapon storage. The towers, minefield, and military bases are surrounded by slums and forests. Slums make up about 45% of the colony, 35% is forest or other natural land, and 20% is reserved for the rich crime bosses and Blue Marz activities. Nadare, the resistance group fighting Blue Marz, is based in the slums. The residents of the slums help hide Nadare. It is rumored that they inhabit the closed off Aria12 also. Nadare is led by the daughter of the late former owner of Blue Mars, Yui Kanzaki. She leads a small group of fighters who perform hit and run style attacks against Blue Marz. She is seeking out two legendary Orbital Frame pilots. One is a mercenary for hire, well known among the type of people who hire them. He lives a solitary, secret life, letting no one know who he really is. The other is a fallen warrior whose Orbital Frame is broken, whose will to fight is shattered, and lives in the slums.
