Oblivious

You only wanted one thing
from me and life so we sang
and time passed about like it would
had the tardy bell rang

life in your mind was nothing
like it was supposed to be
you never saw it coming down
like a California Redwood tree

that I was leaving faster than you
were living your time against my lack
and when you slow down to turn around
you'll see that I'm not coming back.

For now I go on listening
to the banging you make upstairs
the war you continue on battling
while no one in their right mind cares

But soon it'll hit you like Texas
and you'll stove up like some wild-grown
mildew in the grout between the tiles
you didn't even hear the door slam lone
and you never saw the hopeful smiles.
