And Then There Was Peace

You arrived in my life so casually
presenting yourself like you'd always been there
like you were sun on a summer's day
like you were old blue jeans I always wear

You flowed over rocks like a shimmering brook
smoothing the edges and filling each crease
with silken ripples that became a wrapper
of harmony, warmth, and you were peace.

Time passed on by as it always does
and storms rose up as they always do
reality hit hard like it always will
you didn't love me and I didn't love you...

but we had said the words at one time
so we held on to see if we meant them
all the sun, old jeans, and ripples,
the harmony, warmth, and peace, we spent them.

And so you left my life, unclogging my pores,
maybe it could have been me that left yours
but either way, the storms did cease
new growth sprouted from wounds of wars
and then there was peace.
