If The Devil Made The Rain

Raindrops falling on the palmetto leaf
are tears of happiness and grief
joy or sorrow for those who listen
and gaze upon them, sunlit glisten

Raindrops falling on the tin roof
are loud and provide sufficient proof
that anger exists and someone's hurt
then rolls off edges, strumming dirt

Raindrops falling on you and me
get us blue and cold or set us warm and free
magnifying the line between hate and love
through thousands of tears that fall from above

Raindrops falling from the sky
make flowers grow, and make them die
a cloudy mixture of life and death
another cycle, quick, take a deep breath
hold on tight, you're along for the ride
and don't worry none until it rains inside.
