missing

serenely it plays over
it is over, and over
I must have eaten
my four-leaf clover
thinking it was basil
in my spaghetti
toss it up and watch
the colors of confetti
splash and fly and land
as if to say "I'm free"
spring, fall, crash, bash
new year's drunken spree

or was it mardi gras
I can't remember
moon pies, water slides
was it June or December

or was it you or him
or someone else in my head
was I even there at all
was I sleeping in my bed

serenely it plays over
over and over again
half of it missing
pieces thrown to the wind
blank spots
smoke screens
good luck eaten
in turnip greens

or whatever was for dinner
and dessert, key lime kissing
I could've given it to you with ease
serenely playing ivories
as if some teeth are missing.
