shahferi 'aka' ahpek biography
					Shahferi started playing the drums at the age of 7, when his cousin brought back a drumset to his place. He started with listening to songs from his cousins' records and cassette tapes and imitate & play simple groove from it. Few years later, he joined his school's military band and learned proper snare-drums rudiment and reading, and at the same time, still banging away on his cousin's kit at home and improvised the snare rudiments on the kit by himself. Eventually, a year later, while in the school's military band, he moved from snare drums to complete drumset & other classical percussion. From then on, he received proper co-ordination and reading lessons from his instructor. At the age of 14, he joined a rock band and started performing at small clubs. In mid-80s, he joined the band, Varna and performed at bigger venues. In late 80s, he started performing professionally in clubs and pubs. In early 90s, Shahferi went to US & Canada to further his drum studies in some of the drum/music institutes and took individual lessons from pro drummers. In 1994, he came back to Singapore and started sessioning for local & other asian & international artistes, performed regularly in the local clubs, teaches drums and give drum clinics and shows up to this day..... and of course still learning!!
