Shai-Cats Orientals ~ Home of the sleek, exotic Shorthairs and elegant Longhairs for pet and show ~

Orientals are medium sized cats who are athletic, exotic, and very refined in type. They are bred for their exceptional health, loving personalities, and rainbow of color and pattern possibilities! Whether shorthaired or long, Orientals are extremely devoted cats. They "live" to become interactive members of the family and form strong bonds with their people and other pets. Along with our Siamese, Orientals adore playing on cat trees and jungle gyms tremendously. They are playful cats, beautiful to watch in motion as their long slender bodies, long legs, neck and tail give them a dancer's grace and agility!

We specialize in solid colors and work with whites, lavender, chestnut, ebony and blue. We also have ticked and silver tabbies and will have some tabby kittens available later in the year.

In CFA and many registries around the world, the Oriental breed is now seperated into two divisions according to their coat length. Although even the Oriental Longhairs are considered a shorthaired breed and compete with other shorthaired breeds in most registries. In some european countries the Oriental Longhair are referred to as Javanese and Angora.

Oriental Shorthair are bred to have a very tight, close-lying, glossy to satin coat, depending on their colour. They are a study of angles and balance as they stand high on long legs with small, oval feet, a long, whippy tail, long muscular body which is of equal diameter from their chests down to their hips forming a tubular shape. Their heads are long with straight profiles and tapered muzzles, ears are large and continue the wedge shape of their head, and their eyes are almond and vivid green in color. Except for the solid whites who may have blue, green or odd eyes. Oriental Shorthair are stunning cats with their slinky, exotic appearance. You may even wonder if these "little creatures" actually emerged from a Rainforest!
Oriental Longhair have a fine, silky, semi-long coat, much like that of the Balinese breed from which they borrowed their longhaired gene. This coat type is much thinner than those of "full" longhaired breeds such as Persians and Maine Coons. The Oriental Longhair coat does not contain any of the fuzzy, downy "undercoat" so they never mat and shed very little. This thinner, closer-lying coat gives the Longhairs a soft, elegant appearance as their beautiful coats flow down their back and sides, and away from their bodies. The coat length on the body is often just short of an inch with their tails displaying the longest hair in a gorgeous plume.
