James

Quality firt gig at a capacity NEC Arena. Supported by the little known Stereophonics who played a blinding set ending in More Life which flowed in Kelly's version of Sit Down. Tim Booth (lead singer of James) came out in a flattering white dress and gave a stirling performance - basically a greastest hits show, although no Hymn From A Village was disappointing. As the band left the stage the 12000 strong crowd gave a rousing rendition of Sit Down to which the band could not fail to respond with an encore, Booth appearing at the back of the arena, only to return to the front at the request of fellow members!

Set Length : A whooping 2:30

Highlight : Sit Down

Capacity : 12000 (i think)

Stereophonics

Supported by the unknown Canaddian four piece Our Lady Peace, who were frankly pretty crap, the Stereos banged out every hit in the catalogue, and even interspersed the songs with a spot of humour. Probably the busiest merchandise stand ever seen, taking £15 per hat, of which at least 7000 must have been sold. Best recieved songs were Bartender and The Thief, announced as the year before at James as "a song about a lesbian". More Life went down well as did Thousand Trees

Set Length : A guess at about 2 hours

Highlight : Drunken skinhead singing Too Many Sandwiches while going for a piss!

Capacity : Full NEC - filled the previous day too

King Adora

Planned only a few weeks in advance, this was the first Colly gig and first with Will. Napster was the only reason we enjoyed this so much i reckon, and you'll all know how freakilly we are obsessd with this band now. Support was from Easyworld, unknown at the time and the shittest band ever to be alowed to hold a guitar - Crackout. When KA appeared, Maxi kicked into Scream And Shout, top choice for opener. Then some big fat bald bloke charged through the middle of me and will to flatten the mosh pit when Bionic began. Smoulder went down amazingly. 25 short mins later they buggered off never to be seen in the city again. Will spotted a guy with the same bluetones tshirt and used the sensational approaching line "I have the same t-shirt" while proudly displaying it from under the new KA shirt!! Cheesy room was a nightmare after so we left.

Set Length : a shocking 25 mins

Hightlight : Suffocate - and the fat bloke

Capacity : somewhere around 200
