Early Settlers Of East Texas

James M. Dean and Sarah arrived in Texas around May 6th, 1839. Three years previous the Texans had won their struggle for independence in the Battle Of The Alamo. Texas would become the 28th state on December 29th, 1845.

When James and Sarah decided to make their migration to Texas from Alabama they had seven children. James purchased land in Montgomery County, Texas. At one point in time, James owned 747 and one half acres of land. Montgomery County became Walker County. James participated in the Gold Rush at Sutters Creek.

Two of James and Sarah's sons, John and Jesse , became Texas Rangers. Another son, Fulton Frank (my Great Great Great Grandfather) served the Confederacy in the 20th Texas Infantry , Elmore's Regiment , as a private in Company H from 1862 to 1864. The 20th Texas Infantry aided in the recapture of Galveston. A grandaughter, Ann Eliza Dean married D.M. (Pony) Bean , son of Ben Bean . Ben Bean was Circuit Judge for Polk County , Texas.
