Here's some advice about posting gathered from many forum members.
(Note: These are NOT rules! You are free to take the advice or not.)

We try to keep the HerK Forum PG13 just like the show. We have many kids here and people like to keep this a place where they too can come and play.

Before choosing a nick/name to use on the forum check to make sure that particular name is not already being used in some form by someone else.

Remember to use <spoiler brackets> when discussing anything about a new episode. Some may not have seen it yet; the warning will keep them from reading something they would rather not.

Using all caps is considered SHOUTING. You can use caps for emphasis, but using CAPITOL LETTERS through out the whole post...is VERY hard on the eyes!

Use the reply button. It works. If your comment/question concerns a particular post…put it in the thread rather than starting a whole new post.

Read before posting. What you want to post or ask may already be on the forum. If you have a question…check the info posts to see if the answer is there first.

Be as specific as you can about your subject matter. Don't use subject titles like URGENT...MATTER OF LIFE OR DEATH etc., unless it is. We can only read so many posts…so try not to put up posts just to get attention.

People will sometimes leave their email address in a post. This is so that you can contact them directly. Sometimes people don't have time to check the forum, so if you want a response, or want to make sure the person gets the information etc. Use the email

You don't have to re-post the entire message that you are responding to. We have all read the first post, and really don't need to read it again. Re-posting a couple of sentences to make sure it is obvious what you are talking about is fine. Also, long lists of "titles", not deleting, etc. adds to the download time.

If your post isn't at all HerK/Forum related you could mark it OT(off topic). Many people have only so much time to spend on the forum, this way they can see at a glance what's posted and read what interests them. Use email for personal messages or chat rooms for chatting.

Avoid flaming! It's very important to keep your sense of humor. Sometimes it may look like someone has posted something unkind but you can't tell what a person really meant from words on a page. So give people the benefit of the doubt. If you believe that what someone has posted is directed at you...or is something hurtful to others...you can take it off the forum. Leave a message in the thread for the person to email you or email the person directly. Everyone is entitled to his or her opinion, if you don't agree, you can reply but try to do it nicely. (Flaming is making derogatory remarks, name calling…etc.)

When there is a "discussion" going on under a post, one that may be a bit...troubling...putting up new topic post on the subject just points a red flag at it. That can draw even more attention to the problem and prolong it. Add your comments/opinion/question to the thread already started or you can email someone and express your thoughts privately.

Sometimes you will see a post with a well-known nick. Like Sorbo,<G> you should know that the one and only time Kevin posted on the forum, it was posted by the HercStaff. Now they are known as StudioUSA. So if you don't see that...take it with a grain of salt because chances are it's just someone having a go at us! If your not sure and you want to know if something is for "real" email one of the other members of the forum and ask. We do know members of the cast and crew peek in here on occasion, one of the reason's we try to mind our P's and Q's...you just never know who's reading! It's also one of the things that makes this forum so much fun. : )

If you hit post and you get a message saying that the post has been spooled...well it will appear eventually. Please don't keep posting it...the article HAS been saved. Its one of the things that happens from time to time…we never have been able to find out why. So hang in there and wait with the rest of us till your post shows up and the problem(whatever it is!) is fixed. Some times there is sporadic spooling...then there are times it will go on for days! So if you notice that no one has posted for some time…don't panic...its not just you...its the forum. It will be fixed…If you must test to see if it's still spooling…use a thread. Its takes so long to wade through a ton of ...testing...what's going on?...where is everybody?....what's spooling? etc. posts. You will know the forum is up and running again when you see the spooled posts come up.
(If it says throttled...it's gone...the forum is down, have patience they'll fix it.)

If you see a nasty, obnoxious post...**do not reply to it**! Chances are its what we call a troll. An *experienced* Forum Member will post an ETAS(Early Troll Alert System) This is to warn everyone that a troll is on the forum and you are to completely ignore their posts...do NOT respond in anyway...don't put up any new posts regarding said troll...don't even respond to the troll warning. The only way to get rid of a troll is to refuse to give them what they seek...attention. This is how we help keep our forum a great place for everyone! The Net Forum staff will be alerted to the nasty post and they WILL delete it! Remember...never feed a troll! Giving in and responding to a troll just keeps it around…then everyone suffers. Trolls will also sometimes try to use the kindness of others to cause trouble. So unfortunately, we must be cautious about offering help. Please do not give out info about another forum member without checking with that person to make sure it is ok! This includes email addresses, URL's of others forums the person can be found at etc. . Better safe than sorry!
