Shane's Play By Mail Mapping Program

Mapping Program for MadHouse's Dungeon World, Broken Lands, Frontier and now Destiny

This is my attempt at creating a mapping program for the MadHouse UK play-by-mail game Dungeon World (it can also be used for Broken Lands: The Revelations, Frontier and Destiny). The program has been tested using Windows 98, Windows ME and Windows XP on Pentium 2, Pentium III and Pentium 4 PC's.

Download Beta Version 0.4.31

No part of this program may be altered or reproduced without prior permission from Shane Kennedy. All original map graphics are copyrighted by MadHouse UK and are used by kind permission of MadHouse UK. The graphics may not be altered or used in any other way without permission from MadHouse UK.

The map files all unzip to almost 4mb in size (an awful lot of redundant information when not many squares have been mapped)

If you like the program after downloading it or if you find any bugs or incompatibilities then please send me an e-mail to s_kennedy@lineone.net and I will contact you whenever new versions are released.

Current features

Features I intend to add

Providing they are useful and don't clutter up the interface I intend to write code to do the following: (more ideas would be welcomed but bear in mind that this is being written in my spare time and as such I cannot guarantee that it will be completed within a small timescale)

What's New

0.4.32    (29/03/02)    13 new Destiny graphics added.

0.4.31    (12/02/02)    Pits and Chests now show up in the Dungeon map overview as white squares with black or brown dots in the centre of them. Doorways in the Destiny map overview are now brown. The Destiny overview is now more stable but the colours have still not been completely decided on so many features just appear white. Some basic error checking routines concerning the version of program that was used to last edit a map have been added.

0.4.3      (27/01/02)    The graphics routines have been changed so that the program doesn't rely on external graphics files (if you have previously downloaded the program please remove the tiles folder from the program directory as this is no longer needed). I've included some rudimentary colours on the Overview facility for Destiny maps but this is not yet finished so you may experience some weird colour changes while scrolling the Overview however this will not affect the maps. Another Destiny icon has been added (Weapon Shop).

0.4.21    (26/01/02)    26 Destiny tiles added/updated. A bug fixed with the Open Map menu command that would cause an already opened map to be discarded without the option to save changes. The program version number is now saved with the map files so that later versions of the program can detect early maps and make any adjustments or compensations necessary.

0.4.2      (30/12/01)    Destiny map graphics now included. The tile selection screen for Destiny tiles also includes pop-up menus with the right mouse button - this function may be included in the other selection screens in the near future although this may require some conversion of already created maps. I intend to add a small section of code to each map file that includes the version number of the program it was created with, that way I can build conversion programs directly into the main code so users won't need to run any additional code before using their own maps.

0.4.14    (23/11/01)    Added a new map icon for Dungeon World (Statue). Tested the program under Windows XP - no problems detected.

0.4.13    (15/10/01)    The map overview now displays stairs in purple (deep purple for down, light purple for up). Crawlspaces and Crumbling Earth Tunnels now appear on the overview as they do on the normal map. Cave Entrance has been added to the Frontier graphics.

0.4.12    (21/09/01)    The map overview is more stable, most icons have unique colours assigned to them - dungeons, Dungeon World Overland and Frontier maps are all supported. Currently there is no key or information when in the overview mode but hopefully most colours are self explanatory (especially if used to the Excel map files on the discussion groups). The next function to add (after having a short break) will be to display the information about a tile when the mouse is moved over the relevant area of the overview map. I have also written some code that refreshes the overview map when necessary (i.e. when changing screen resolution, when creating a new map and when minimising, and subsequently, maximising the window.)

0.4.11    (16/09/01)    The map overview is more functional and now works in 1024 x 768 resolution. It is currently designed only for dungeon maps so overviews for overland maps will look mis-coloured but work is still carrying on to make this a fully working part of the program. I have also added Jungle Path, Small Pool and Elephant Hut graphics for the Frontier module.

0.4.10    (15/09/01)    The map overview is currently at a very basic level (and doesn't always function correctly) but it is possible to get a feel for how it will look and since the code is very modular it will not interfere with making or displaying the normal maps

0.4.02    (11/09/01)    Added a map overview button and form (no code added yet so the map isn't displayed but I will be working on this one shortly)

0.4.01    (04/09/01)    Fixed a bug in the "New Map" routine that would keep the current filename so Save would not function correctly (it would overwrite the last created map file instead of acting the same as Save As)
