Just My Most Personal Thoughts
No matter how you come, I hope you leave feeling a little more loved.
Thought for the Week 11-26-06

I have heard people say that the reason for the increase in violence in modern society is because of the increase in violence in Video Games and Movies.  So the thought for this week is this:

What if people really do live their lives vicariously through television, movies and video games?   Should the people who know how to control themselves be made to censor their lives and choices because there are some out there that do not know how to recognize the line between real and fantasy?  And if not, who is to blame for those who knew that they were incapable of chosing the right choice? Them or the people who gave them the right to choose?

I think there is a very thin line between right and wrong and the line gets thinner when you have never been taught wrong like others have been taught.  How far is too far?  How can you tell who will go that disstance when the only way to find out is once they have gone too far?

I don't believe that the video games and movies are to blame for the increase in violence in society.

Violent acts have been happening within society since time began. The Bible tells us that such things will increase. We are all born in sin. In some of us it get's increasingly worse and in others, it decreases. Perhaps the rise in society is directly attributable more to population growth than anything else.

If video games or movies did not show any of the content in question then the culprit would be music. Just as it was back in the days of Rock and Roll.

There always has to be a scapegoat. It can't possibly be just has the LORD has stated it would be. We can't actually by our very nature have those possibilities.

Many people need to wake up. Many of the things that make us gasp in society today, we are also very capable and probably only a few meals away from comitting ourselves.

LOl at meals:)
Well I agree with Prins...
I would add that it is 'supply and demand' to put it blatantly.
Society 'demands' these types of 'entertainment', thus it is supplied.
I mean. Was there a video game or song cueing people like 'dahmer' and 'the son of sam'?
It takes one twisted mind and soul to promote such indecencies. BUT, it takes a demone mind and soul to request such monstrosities be made available.
I'm tired. Hope I made sense.
It's all about free will. We all have it. How we use it to chooose what we do and how we react, is up to each individual person.
Even if at home limits weren't tought or right from wrong wasn't tought. YOU will experience things in life that will teach you what they are. Again, it's up to you how you choose to impliment what you learned. Sad, but true.
Have a good day. :)

I totally agree with you both. I remember watching the movie "les Miserables" (or something like that) in 6th grade and the Main character stole bread for his hungry family and was punished for it, (it was 6th grade, I can't remember exactly) but the point is, it was not something that he would have done if his family wasn't hungry.

That is how it is with many of us. We say we wouldn't do a lot of things, but if our circumstances were to change, we might find ourselves doing things we never thought we would do. I wanted to switch it up with the thought for the week this week and I think I like this approach.

I think the increase in violence has nothing to with videos games and movies. I think the blame lies at the parents’ feet and our current poor economy.

If we had more parents who were involved in their children’s lives as opposed to trying to earn the mighty dollar..etc I think the crime spree would cease.

I played/play violent video games and I watched/watch violet films but it was instilled in me at a very young age, the difference between fantasy and reality.

Everyone is quick to blame society or any other tangible/non-tangible object but what they really need to do is hold the mirror up to themselves.

And I have to disagree with your “thin line between right and wrong theory.” Of courses they are gray areas but overall right and wrong are clearly on two different spectrums.
