DBZ
Character Profiles
As soon as I see the rest of the Buu Saga, I'll be adding him to this page. He's the absolute coolest, freakiest villain in the series. I can't leave him off. But I want to get all the details on him before I dive into making a profile for him... So you'll just have to wait until CN gets smart enough to show some new episodes.
Goku
Race: Saiya-jin
Abilities: Bukujutsu, Fusion, Genki-Dama, Shinkan Idou, Jan-Ken Punch, Kaio-ken,
Kame Hame Ha, Kiaiho, Kienzan, Oozaru, Renzoku Kikou Ha, Ryuken, Shunkanido,
SSJ, SSJ2, SSJ3, SSJ4, Taiyoken, Telepathy, USSJ, Zanzoken
Goku is sent by Furiza to Earth as an infant so he can prepare it to be sold. He
could easily destroy every living thing on Earth, but he falls into a ravine and hits his
head as a baby. This accident causes him to lose all memory of his past and orders and
Goku becomes a friendly boy who fights on the side of good. He's not the brightest guy,
but incredible when it comes to the martial arts and manipulating Ki. Goku has the most
abilities of any of the Z warriors. He marries Chi-Chi, daughter of Gyuu Mao, and together
they have two sons, Gohan and Goten. He despises hurting people or any other creatures, but his Saiya-jin blood also draws him to the fight, making him crave it in a way humans could never understand. So, when it comes down to it, Goku is always ready to kick some butt if there's no other way out. And, as I stated on the main page, I think he's by-far the strongest of all the Z-Fighters. But he's certainly not my favorite... At first, the goody-two-shoes thing is adorable... but when you realize that it's just an excuse to not have to give him any character development, it gets annoying... fast. But... for some reason, you just can't hate the guy. How could anyone hate such a gentle, amusing idiot? ^_^
Gohan
Race: Half Saiya-jin, Half Human
Abilities: Bukujutsu, Energy Dan, Kame Hame Ha, Masenko, Oozaru, SSJ, SSJ2,
Zanzoken
He is initially trained by Piccolo after the battle with
Raditsu at the very beginning of the series. And I think he's only... five at the time. Quite a quick start, I guess. But, then again, his father was uber-strong when he was young, too... Must run in the family. Anyway. He looks up to Piccolo for being such a great fighter, and tries to imitate him
by wearing similar clothes. He has the potential to become the most powerful being in the
universe, yet since he cannot always use his full strength, Gohan can be defeated. He can only seem to call on his full potential when things are beyond hopeless, and only then when he's given the proper motivation. Unlike his father, Gohan's human side seems to be dominant (personality-wise, anyway... though his mom has been known to fly off the handle for no reason...) and that prevents him from feeling the craving for battles Saiya-jins experience. It also leads him to have a lot of inner-conflict on the battlefield. Though incredibly strong, Gohan hates to fight. When he was young, it seemed like a cool thing to do. But as he grew older and wiser, he realized that it's not the only way to get things done and turns into a more scholarly type. He can be rather undependable, sadly. Anyway. Gohan
is the first Saiya-jin to go SSJ2, but rarely trains his fighting skills after the final
battle with Cell. He achieves an "ultimate power" called "Mystic"... which I think is what he uses against the powered up Buu... But I'm not certain on that. They never gave his power a title in the CN dubbed version.
Kuririn
Race: Human
Abilities: Bukujutsu, Double Tsuihikidan, Fusenko, Kakusandan, Kame Hame Ha,
Kienzan, Shishin No Ken, Taiyoken, Zanzoken
Kuririn is the most powerful human on Earth. He was once
Goku's rival when they were young, but they later became best friends. A Buddhist monk, he
shaves his head by choice, but later in the series his wife convinces him to let his hair
grow. He is nearly always found at Goku's side. Poor Baldy actually serves a purpose in DB and in the beginning of DBZ... but as the Saiya-jins power up and basically leave poor human Kuririn in the dust, he becomes a source of comic relief. Which isn't so bad while they're on Namek fighting Furiza... In fact, I nearly cried during a certain scene in the second stage of the battle against the galaxy's "Big Bad." But, fickle as I am, my love for Cue-Ball died during the Androids saga. ... Good God, he gets whiny. >_< And, after the threat of the Androids is neutralized, Kuririn becomes practically useless as a fighter and as a character in general. A shame. He was wonderful in DB... Why did they have to kill all his cool character qualities in DBZ?
Kame-sennin
Race: Human
Abilities: Kame Hame Ha, Mafuba
A dirty old man who claims to have eternal life, Kame-sennin
is a master at the martial arts. However, Kame usually spends his time staring at his
collection of porn. He is the first person to train Goku and Kuririn extensively, making
him responsible for their great strength when they were young. He pops up throughout the entire series, though his point in being around is minimal. The old man, once considered the strongest fighter in the world, is totally useless against the great evils the Z-Fighters face. I think they just left him in because he was around in DB. *shrugs* Though he is good for a laugh or two every now and again... but not enough to justify his existence. ^_^
Kami-sama
Race: Namek
Abilities: Barrier, Bukujutsu, Dragonball Formation, Mafuba, Merging, Mystic
Attack, Telepathy
Kami-sama created the Dragonballs on Earth after being sent
to the planet when his homeworld Namek was about to be hit by a comet. He wanted to be
pure good and so he purged his evil side. His evil thoughts formed into Piccolo-Daimao. They have a link, so if one of the two dies, both of them die. As the guardian of Earth
and creator of the Dragonballs, Kami plays a key role in the story. Basically, if he dies, so go the Dragonballs. And, without them, there wouldn't be much of a series, considering how all the characters have the nasty habit of constantly dying. In fact... Heh. I guess the Earth would be under Furiza's control after the second Saiya-jin attack... Thank Kami for Kami-sama. ^_^
Karin-sama
Race: Cat
Abilities: Grows Senzu Beans
Grower of the Senzu beans, Karin lives in a tower that hangs
just below Kami-sama's lookout. Karin-sama is quite wise and intelligent, but not a
fighter at all. Although rarely seen, Karin helps out quite a bit behind the scenes with
his healing beans. That, and do a little flirting with Marron. ^_^ Not little Marron... Kuririn's girlfriend. The one who was basically a sexier, dumber version of Bulma. Oh. And he feeds Yajirobe. Not a small task...
Chaozu
Race: Human (even though he doesn't really look it... O_o)
Abilities: Bukujutsu, Kame Hame Ha, Kanashibari no Jyutsu, Kikoho,
Telepathy, Telekenesis
A master telepath, Chaozu has the power to communicate over
long-distances. He and Tienshinhan are best friends. His power level does not
increase much with training, making him unable to keep up with the other Z warriors as the
series progresses. He's an Emperor, though that's only shown in DB... His role in DBZ is minimal at best. In fact... After the battle against Vegita and Napa, the poor little guy is rarely seen. Except for the occasional shots of his training with the Kai... and a very brief cameo during the Buu and Cell sagas. Poor li'l guy. *sighs* Well. He probably shouldn't fight, considering he has a country to rule and all. Makes sense that he's not around... I guess... Or maybe I'm just trying to rationalize his disappearance. ^_^
Chi-Chi
Race: Human
Abilities: Controls the most powerful men in existence by nagging them to
death. ^_^
Chi-Chi is Goku's wife and the mother of Gohan and Goten. She
will stop at nothing to get Gohan to continue studying. No matter how powerful Goku
becomes, he still is very submissive to his whining, worrying wife. It's a toss-up for the award of "most annoying DBZ character" between Mrs. Son and Ms. Briefs. Chi-Chi... God... If my mother was like her, I would've killed myself long ago. She's a nagging, psychotic, overprotective freak who won't let Goku and Gohan lead their own lives. Though a bit more lenient with her second son, Chi-Chi is still rather cruel by calling Goten a monster when he becomes a Super-Saiya-jin in front of her eyes. Not very nice for a six-year-old to hear.
Tenshinhan
Race: Human
Abilities: Bukujutsu, Dodonpa, Kame Hame Ha, Kiai, Kikoho, Mafuba,
Shinnoken, Shiyoken, Taiyoken, Zanzoken
Tenshinhan is Chaozu's bodyguard and best friend. His powers involve
multiplying various body parts. Tenshinhan created numerous techniques such as the
Taiyoken, and is quite powerful for a human. Hey, anyone who can keep Cell down is pretty darn tough, let me tell ya. And Tenshinhan did it. Impressive, if you ask me. The "three-eyed man," even though he makes few appearances later on,
still plays a decent roll in Dragonball Z. Though it should've been more... He's probably the character that I'm most angry about vanishing. He's an interesting character... Much more so than even Goku. Bah. I'll just watch the second season of DBZ and one of my DB DVDs for my Tenshinhan fix... He absolutely rocks in DB.
Trunks
Race: Half Saiya-jin, Half Human
Abilities: Bukujutsu, Burning Attack, Finish Buster, Fusion, Kame Hame Ha,
Masenko, Renzokou Kikou Ha, SSJ, USSJ, Zanzoken
Trunks is the first child of Vegita and Bulma. Two Trunks
make appearances in DBZ: Mirai Trunks and Chibi Trunks. Mirai Trunks comes from 14 years
in the future where evil androids rule the Earth and have destroyed all the Z-Fighters. He
goes back in time to prepare the Z-warriors for the androids' arrival. He tells no one of
his heritage, except Goku, to try and make sure his birth isn't prevented. The truth
comes out later, however. Chibi Trunks is born a short while before Mirai Trunks returns
to his own time. In his younger form, he is very good friends with Goku's younger son, Goten. Trunks
displays incredible amounts of power, and can become a Super Saiya-jin when he is eight. Mirai Trunks is definitely the better version of this lavender-haired cutie, though. Chibi Trunks is beyond annoying, combining the know-it-all attitude of his mother with the fearless, egotistical mindset of his father to make a kid you just want to strangle. Mirai Trunks, on the other hand.... Hoo-boy. He's sweet, kind of sensitive, and fights battles with intelligence. I wish he had stuck around longer... v_v
Piccolo
Race: Namek
Abilities: Bukujutsu, Chonoryoku, Chou Bakurestu Ma Ha, Energy Dan,
Kousengan, Kakusanyudokodan, Kyodaika, Makankosappo, Sei Sei, Renzokou Kikou Ha, Renzoku
Senkoudan, Merging, Shogekiha, Tsuihidan, Zanzoken
Piccolo is the sole offspring of Piccolo-Daimao. He fought
with Goku as a child and swore to kill him after his defeat. But when Raditsu threatens to
destroy the Earth, Piccolo helps Goku defeat his brother. After that battle, he trains
Gohan, and the kid helps Piccolo become one of the good guys. Like all Nameks,
Piccolo is capable of regenerating body parts, making him quite a difficult foe to kill. The only reason I don't include Piccolo on my list of characters with development is because he doesn't really change all that much... In fact, all his evolving is done before Vegita even shows up. Now, from DB to DBZ there's a lot of change... But there's just not enough in this series to qualify him for the list. That doesn't mean, however, that Piccolo is a bad character. As a matter of fact, he's one of the more interesting people in the series, simply because he's so amazingly brave and strong. And a bit of a jerk at times, too. ^_^ But that just adds to his charm. Plus, you just have to respect a guy who begins literally as pure evil, but ends up transforming into a hero. That's a lot to overcome.
Yamcha
Race: Human
Abilities: Bukujutsu, Kame Hame Ha, Rogafufuken, Sokidan
Yamcha is first shown in DBZ as a baseball player. When
the Saiya-jins attack, Kuririn is sent to summon his old friend to help in the fight.
Yamcha does not train much after the encounter with the Saiya-jins, but is still helpful
in later battles. He and Bulma are together for half of DBZ. Before the bimbo dumps him for Vegita. *sighs* Why does everyone seem to fall for her? Ugh... Anyway. Back to talking about Yamcha. He's another character that goes through a lot of development in DB (or at least more than he does in the sequel series), but is pretty much forgotten in DBZ. A shame since he's probably one of the more entertaining people in the DB universe. The only person who ever made me laugh more was Kuririn.
Vegita
Race: Saiya-jin
Abilities: Big Bang Attack,
Bukujutsu, Final Flash, Fusion, Gariku-hou, Kienzan, Oozaru, Power Ball, Renzokou Kikou
Ha, SSJ, SSJ2, SSJ4, Zanzoken
Vegita is the prince of all Saiya-jins, making him believe he
has the "elite blood" needed to become a Super Saiya-jin. He is taken from his
home when he is very young and made to serve Furiza. Vegita is one of the strongest
fighters in Furiza's service. He is one of the four Saiya-jins that escaped the
destruction of their home planet. Vegita first appears with fellow Saiya-jin Nappa
when they come to Earth to try and collect the Dragonballs. After being
defeated by the Z fighters (Gohan, Goku, and Kuririn, to be specific), Vegita returns to
space but reappears on Namek to hunt for the Dragonballs once again. He is very
jealous of Goku's fighting ability, and actually helps him from time to time in attempts
to try and surpass Goku's power. *rubs her hands together* Now for my favorite part of the profiles... Personal opinions. ^_^ I've been wanting to talk about my Veggiekins for quite a while. Basically, in my opinion, Vegita is the most intriguing and the sexiest guy in the entire series. There's just something incredibly attractive about someone who goes from being bad to at least quasi-good. And that's what Vegita is. He's terribly wicked and cruel, but there's a definite good side to him, although it's rarely seen. Only around Chibi Trunks does Vegita show his kind, fatherly side. Besides, his attitude is just beyond cool. Yeah, he's a bit egotistical--okay, a lot--and that gets him in a lot of trouble during battles. But he always comes through when the chips are down. Not in the way Goku does, of course, since the dark Prince is not the star of the series, but he sacrifices himself a few times for the home team. And, without him, Goku would never be able to attain the power he gains through the Fusion technique. So there. =P
Bulma
Race: Human
Abilities: She can... umm... build
stuff.
Bulma is the mother of Trunks. She can't fight at all, but
she is a genius when it comes to any electronic device. And I don't have all that much more to say about her except... I hate Bulma. Hate. More than Chi-Chi, more than any of the villains... I hate her with a passion. Why on Earth Vegita ever fell for this annoying, arrogant, pushy, demanding, wimpy, pathetic excuse for a female I'll never understand. And did I mention that she's a major slut? The chick flashes every guy who crosses her path. >_< And the way she treated poor Yamcha! Agh! Atrocious. I wish she would've died after giving birth to Trunks. ... Although that would've screwed up the entire future... Crap. There's no clean way to get rid of her. >_< Life isn't fair.
Furiza
Race: Changeling
Abilities: Barrier, Bukujutsu, Daichiretsuzan, Death Ball, Kousenzan,
Furiza Beam, Henshin, Kienzan, Renzokou Kikou Ha,
Zanzoken
Furiza is one of the universe's most powerful warriors, and
runs a group of criminals who destroy life on planets and then sell the worlds to the
highest bidder. His quest for immortality brings him to Namek to seek the
Dragonballs to grant his wish for eternal life. Furiza has numerous stages of power,
and each stage has a different appearance. After he is defeated by Goku, the remains
of his body are found drifting in space by his father, King Cold. Furiza is
outfitted with an android body and seeks revenge on Goku, but is defeated on Earth by a mysterious Super Saiya-jin before Goku returns from his wandering journey through the galaxies. Furiza is a totally wicked dude with a slightly feminine appearance and a definitely feminine tone in his dubbed voice. I can understand why he's such a dominant force in the universe... The guy knows how to control people with fear, a power that more dictators should take advantage of.
Cell
Race: Android
Abilities: Barrier, Bukujutsu, Cell Jr, Furiza Beam, Kame Hame Ha, Kienzan,
Kikoho, Kyushu, Makankosappo, Power Drain, Sai Sei, Shunkanido, Taiyoken, Yell, Zanzoken
Cell was assembled using the DNA from the best fighters in the universe by Dr. Gero.
He was completed a few years after Mirai Trunks had destroyed #17 and #18 in his time. Cell had to absorb those two androids to become "perfect," and Mirai Trunks' actions prevented him from being able to do so in his own time.
Seeing no solution to this problem in his time, Cell killed Trunks, stole his time machine, and traveled back to before the androids were destroyed. After several battles,
Cell finds what he's looking for and becomes complete. He holds a tournament called the
"Cell Games" where he challenges anyone in the world to fight him. If he is not
defeated, Cell will destroy the Earth. Cell wins his battles against Mr. Satan &
Co. and also his fight against Goku. Eventually the android is defeated with a Kame
Hame Ha from Gohan. And if there's any bad guy who can top Furiza in the area of pure-evilness, it's Cell. He kills for the sheer pleasure of killing, although part of it is driven by his need to increase his own powers. Also, he forced the Z-Fighters into a state of desperation, each of them thinking they didn't stand a chance without Goku, Trunks, and Vegita. No one has pushed the Earth's warriors to their absolute limits the way Cell did. Well, not until the next villain comes along, anyway...
